A long road

I walk a long road with trees of myst lining up the path on both sides. The mysty haze extends far ahead into solid emptiness of dismal grey light. This light is not luminous nor does it radiate warmth. It is within the air, its indispensable part. Thick heavy air absorbs the sounds of my footsteps. Silence reigns over this undisclosed realm and it plays an uncanny mute tune that leaves an everlasting shrieking silence in my ears. As I turn around I see the same yellow divide in the middle of the road stretching out of nowhere towards my feet. The road itself is covered with greyish film that looks like ash and as I walk I leave footprints behind me - the only indication that I am moving forward. There seems to be no end to the road, no turns, no promise of any change. Just a straight path like a flatline on a heart monitor. No heart beats, no turn-offs. I try to get off the road but the farther I go the darker it becomes and the harder it gets to breathe. Until it gets completely dark ... the next moment I am back on the road again, and somehow I know i have to move on ...
