Andrew Coscoran: The boy from Ireland taking on the world - Grand Slam Track & Diamond League life, Training Smarter and the importance of recovery, Always striving for more
Description
Eoin sat down with multiple Irish record holder 1 week out from competing at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Andrew dialled in from Ireland Athletics holding camp in a blazing Hong Kong.
Andrew explains how he plans to navigate the rounds of a major Championship whilst competing in both 1500m & 5000m - in terms of ticking over inbetween races, getting the perfect balance of recovery and priming for the next race.
Andrew talks about how he first found running as a junior, the challenges of trying to fit into a system rather than the system being built around you in USA and moving on when the time is right and striving for more.
Eoin asks Andrew about his experiences at Grand Slam Track, the financial opportunities that come with it, the pressures and tactics of the second race when you know how much money is on the line and the realities of 'getting the call' - changing flights and altitude camp plans.
Andrew also talks about life on the road in racing on the Diamond League circuit, how important heart rate is in being an indicator of overtraining, managing recovery, load and stress on the body.
Andrew has recently joined Team New Balance Manchester and shares an incredibly insightful typical summer training week including the perhaps controversial lack of a long run!
Tune in to the World Athletic Championships in Tokyo from this Saturday and follow Andrew as he flies the Irish flag in the 1500m & 5000m
