In this episode, we begin a two part series that interviews former Secret Service Special Agent, turned author, Cory Allen about his new book, BREAKING FREE. Cory joins Yergz, remotely, for an opportunity to catch up, but also an opportunity to share each others' stories, and their relevance, to coming out, and coming of age. BREAKING FREE is Cory's debut work telling just that story.

We begin with Cory's upbringing, his Mom's numerous husbands over the years, and her efforts to protect and safely raise her children. Going "home" to Western Pennsylvania and seeing "Pap," Cory's grandfather was a "rock" for Cory, who endured a childhood of domestic violence and relocating.

Next Cory and Yergz discuss their unique perspectives of the world, having been able to see things in life that others only see on the evening news. From Yergz riding in Hillary Clinton's motorcade, to Cory watching the Obama's board Marine One for the last time, these two have seen history!

Cory and Yergz then share with each other their own battles with mental health and reassure each other that the treatment that each is receiving is ok and well deserved. This, of course, gets into how each will parent their children. Cory and his fiancé are working with two surrogates and are in the process of giving us all a reason for another book - and another interview!

Finally, we come back to Cory's youngest memory's of questioning his sexuality. While moving to protect others from the awkward situations, there was still the inappropriate jokes and gay bashing, especially in a hypermasculine atmosphere like law enforcement. Stay tuned for Part 2 as we continue with the cliff hanger question!
