Summary of talk: Women of Color (WOC) and Indigenous Women (IW) are spearheading an array of visionary efforts, collaborations, strategic actions and solutions to counter planetary harms. Yet, within the mainstream narrative of the North American environmental movement, their cutting-edge work has not been fully or adequately recognized, funded, celebrated or emulated, raising important questions about inclusivity, effectiveness and power. The emerging, multimedia Practical Visionaries book project seeks to lift up and celebrate the essential work and leadership of IW and WOC working on a wide array of environmental issues, locally, nationally and globally.
