Sponsoring trees is great – but how can you tell if your trees are real? While various methods, such as using search engines, logging our footsteps, or buying a bottle of gin, claim to contribute to tree planting, it is imperative to ascertain the actual occurrence of tree planting and whether the individuals involved in the process truly reap the rewards of the sponsorship.

This million Euro economy is all too often opaque.

On a quest to change this is Andrew Kerr, former nature reserve ranger in South Africa and now founder of Green Steps, who has built a system for the tracking of hundreds of thousands of individual trees.
