Good evening, children.
00:00:03
It's Granny Madduff, ready with a story, so make yourself comfy and I'll begin.
00:00:10
Once upon a time, in a place called Grease, there lived a young man called Arion.
00:00:21
He was thought to be the greatest loot player in the world.
00:00:26
With a voice so soft, yet so powerful and fingers so nimble and quick, tales of Arion's music travelled far and wide.
00:00:37
It was said he had the power to charm the birds and the beasts and even rocks and trees.
00:00:45
Arion was from a city called Corinth.
00:00:48
One day, he decided it was time to see the world and to sing to the world.
00:00:56
He wanted glory to make a name for himself.
00:01:00
The king, Periander, warned Arion that the sea could be a treacherous place.
00:01:07
For the only way to cross was to book passage on a ship.
00:01:12
Arion persuaded the king to let him sing to those far and wide and to let them know from where he came.
00:01:20
That from Corinth was born the greatest loot player.
00:01:26
So Periander allowed it and Arion set sail on a merchant ship.
00:01:33
The voyage was smooth and soon he was in Italy.
00:01:39
There were many fine musicians there, but none compared to Arion.
00:01:46
When he sang, it was as if it were a dream.
00:01:51
The people could not take their eyes off him.
00:01:55
Word of Arion's talent travelled quickly through the land.
00:01:59
He went to Sicily and sang there too.
00:02:04
Arion made much money on his tour.
00:02:07
Gold and silver bags, so heavy, his horse could barely carry them.
00:02:14
But after a time, he grew homesick and wanted to return to Corinth.
00:02:21
He booked passage on a ship with a crew of Corinthians and set sail towards home.
00:02:28
But once at sea, the captain approached him.
00:02:34
"We'll have your money now," he said.
00:02:38
He thought they were his countrymen, but the Corinthian crew were pirates and they wanted Arion's coins.
00:02:46
"Oh, how foolish he was.
00:02:48
Why did he not heed the advice of his friend, the king, and stay in Corinth?"
00:02:55
"All for glory."
00:02:58
"Yeah, you give us the money and walk the plank," the captain told him.
00:03:04
The men had surrounded him.
00:03:07
"If I do what you ask, then allow me one thing.
00:03:12
Let me sing one more time," he said to the pirates.
00:03:18
They agreed.
00:03:20
Arion handed the bags of gold and silver to the captain, and then on the deck of the ship, he played.
00:03:31
He sang a most beautiful song.
00:03:34
When he had finished, the pirates made him walk the plank, holding his loot close into the water Arion fell.
00:03:46
He watched as the ship sailed away.
00:03:51
Then suddenly, there was something beneath him carrying him.
00:03:59
He was on a dolphin.
00:04:02
It had been following the ship, and when it heard Arion's sweet song, he felt it was his duty to save him.
00:04:11
"Dear Arion, how sweetly you play.
00:04:16
Allow me to take you home."
00:04:21
Arion was grateful.
00:04:24
The dolphin swam all the way to the shores of Cape Teneram.
00:04:30
Arion thanked him.
00:04:32
"Oh, she'll sing about you," he promised.
00:04:37
And with that, the dolphin was off.
00:04:42
Arion made his way back to Corinth.
00:04:45
When he arrived, he told King Perryander all that had happened.
00:04:50
The king was quite fond of Arion, but doubted his story.
00:04:56
"Road on a dolphin," he asked.
00:05:00
"Yes, it was as if Zeus himself sent him," Arion replied.
00:05:06
The king ordered Arion to stay in his rooms.
00:05:10
And when the pirates arrived in the city, the king summoned them.
00:05:16
"Tell me," he ordered.
00:05:19
"Where is Arion?"
00:05:23
They told the king that Arion said quite well in Italy, and that is where they left him.
00:05:28
He chose not to return home, but to stay.
00:05:32
And so when Arion appeared behind the king, the pirates were shocked.
00:05:40
For now, they could no longer deny what had really happened.
00:05:46
What they did not know was how Arion had made it back to Corinth.
00:05:52
The king had them led away and locked up.
00:05:57
Arion stayed in Corinth and continued to sing, especially one particular song about the dolphin who had saved him.
00:06:10
The End.
00:06:19
And now it's time to take a deep breath, close our eyes so that we may drift off into our world of our own adventure.
00:06:29
Good night children.
