Update: 2025-12-11
Description
Rafael Turner, a 35-year-old former Wichita resident from Phoenix, Arizona, has been sentenced to 272 months in prison for his role in a major fentanyl trafficking operation. The ring, active from an unknown start date until March 2023, distributed significant quantities of fentanyl into Kansas. Turner pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute a controlled substance. The investigation led to the prosecution of 45 individuals, including Turner, Clifton Ray Weatherspoon, and Antonio Dawayne Knight. Weatherspoon and Knight were sentenced to 300 and 150 months respectively. In February 2023, they flew from Wichita to Phoenix to purchase 300,000 fentanyl pills, which were intercepted by law enforcement. The operation was dismantled through collaborative efforts of the FBI, Wichita Police Department, and IRS-Criminal Investigation.
