You are a fragile bird caught
in the claws of a cat,
a victim of its cruel games
there’s no escaping that
as you tremble in pain
You’re stuck right
where you’re at,
You are one of
so Damned many
who sought love
but don’t have any
You can’t please him
but you can’t refuse,
Parenthood and marriage
are the glues,
and your so-called failures
are his lame excuse
for him to use you for abuse……….
Policemen come,
& policemen go
but you will not
turn him in, you know.
that when he gets out
he will return
with even crueler lessons
you will learn,
over his so-called love
that you have spurned.
I wish that just once
I could pass
close enough to hear
his senseless wrath
and rush right in
to block his path
then punish him
with fisted smacks
until he’s knocked out
on his back
a taste of his
own medicine
that breaks his
angry regimen
with threats that
I’ll be back again
If he ever dares
one more attack
on you, then he
will need a Cath…
thanks to me
his visiting Psychopath.
Then gently I’d
lead you away
to a safe house
where you’d gladly stay
where he can’t get to you
in any way
and if he did
I’d make him pay
like a superhero
I’d appear
and bounce him
soundly on his rear
the minute you’d call
and I’d hear
that he dared once more
to bring you fear.
But this cruelness
goes on everywhere
in endless homes
wives suffering share
You must supervise
your daily care
and be a heroine if you dare
grab your kids
and some luggage
when he’s not there
and run away
from your dark despair
lest your children share
your worst nightmare
and leave your family
beyond any repair
You’re not a fragile bird

that it’s time to combat
the agony from
being his doormat
it’s time to Woman Up
and escape all that
before you’re laid behind
a morgue drawer’s latch

and where soon a new love

someone who shares
all the true love
you’re feeling.....without the pain!!
