Description

The second episode of the Environmental Humanities Podcast hosts Ashley Dawson. Ashley is an author, activist, and Professor of English at the Graduate Center and the College of Staten Island, CUNY. He currently works in the fields of environmental humanities and postcolonial ecocriticism. Ashley is the author of three recent books relating to these fields: People’s Power (O/R, 2020), Extreme Cities (Verso, 2017), and Extinction (O/R, 2016). We talk about Ashley's recent book, People's Power, and discuss the urgency to compose a radical political path for a just energy transition beyond fossil fuels and the imperative to go beyond technocratic and green capitalist solutions. Tune in for a lively conversation on the idea of the energy commons, lessons from grassroots activism, solarpunk, the Green New Deal, and more.

The Environmental Humanities is a podcast sponsored by the Kaplan Institute for the Humanities at Northwestern University. The podcast is hosted by Zeynep Oguz, Postdoctoral Fellow in Environmental Humanities of the Kaplan Humanities Institute and the Department of Anthropology at Northwestern University.
