BFT Show: Warren Spady, Jon Wilner, BFT Jury
Update: 2025-09-20
Description
John Canzano is in talking about the Civil War. This is the last Civil War that is officially on the schedule between the Ducks and Beavers, and Canzano ponders whether this game should continue to be played after this season. Canzano is talking youth sports and emphasizing how crazy some of the prices, fans, refs, coaches, and travel has gotten when it comes to watching your kid play sports. The BFT jury reconvenes and discusses the topics of the Civil War and Marcus Mariota. Warren Spady, the man who sculpted the platypus trophy, joins the show to discuss the backstory of the trophy. Spady wonders why the athletic directors haven't adopted the trophy for the Civil War game. Spady says that he never got recognition for making the trophy until John Canzano wrote his column in 2004 wondering why the Civil War didn't have a trophy. Spady will be featured on College Gameday on Saturday, and talks about that experience he had with ESPN. San Jose Mercury News' Jon Wilner joins the show to preview week 4 of the college football season. Wilner and Canzano make their picks for the biggest games of the week. Wilner thinks that the Civil War may be a little closer than Vegas says. Wilner makes the case for why Oregon State and Washington State would want to continue to play their rivalry games. Wilner gives an upset this week in college football and picks some schools that he thinks could win conferences. Wilner talks about the change to the transfer portal now that it's going to go to one portal window. The 5 at 5, what's on tap, and much more!
