A mother might tell a rude, unruly teenager, "You should be ashamed of yourself!". but we often say the same thing to ourselves when we consider our sinful deeds, words, and thoughts. There is an ungodly type of shame that finds its origin in human pride, but genuine, godly shame over our sin leads to repentance, salvation and spiritual growth.
