An interesting year was 2024. And I refer not to the reinstatement of Trump, nor the advancements of AI, nor the rise of autocracy, nor the fall of Assad, nor Palestine, nor hawk tuah. No, I’m talking about the fundament of being itself that outlasts the ephemera of happening things, the undergird of the fabric of why to bother. I’m talking about film and television.

2024 was arguably cinema’s finest hour since the last very fine hour, which was quite a few hours ago. But as well as offering up some of the most outstanding films for years, it dropped too a dud or two. Profound duds or twos. So here, Jordan and I (Sam) reach the apotheosis of our respect and the apogee of our contempt (respectively, we’d be deranged otherwise) as we present you with our 10 favourites and hateourites from last year, film-wise and telly-wise combined.
