Description

Since the 1960s pharmacy residency programs have changed and evolved over time to meet the needs of the profession and patient care. As we enter the 60th year of residency accreditation, programs are not only looking at meeting the needs of patients, but also the health needs of residents.

As a whole, pharmacy residents are incredibly resilient. If they weren't, it is unlikely that they would have made it through pharmacy school and the residency match process. With the results of a 2018 survey of pharmacy residents showing that 39.9% had symptoms of moderate to severe depression during residency (over 3 times the rate of the general population of the same age), it is safe to say that something needs to be done, but what?

In this week's video podcast episode, I am reviewing a series of articles and letters published in AJHP that evaluates the structure of residency programs and the impact they have on resident burnout.
