Description

In this study of Deuteronomy chapter 7, we look at the sure promises of God and the seriousness of His commands. Moses doesn't speak in "ifs" or "maybes"—he says when the Lord brings Israel into the promised land, because God is faithful to keep His word. Elder Jonathan Moseley walks through the nations Israel would face, why God chose to dispossess them, and what it means to utterly destroy their idols and influences. We see God's sovereignty in election, His faithfulness to His oath, and the warnings against compromise that would lead the next generation astray. This chapter shows both the mercy of God to those who love Him and keep His commandments, and His judgment upon those who hate Him. From the covenant made with Abraham, to the victory over Egypt, to the warnings about strange gods—everything points to the Lord who alone is mighty, faithful, and terrible. And just as Israel was called to be a holy, peculiar people, so too in Christ we are a chosen generation and a royal priesthood. Come study with us as we consider God's holiness, His sovereignty, and His call for His people to love Him and keep His commandments.
