Tonight we start a new story, Black Beauty by Anna Sewell.
I will be reading some of my favorite chapters from this wonderful Autobiography of a Horse.
Published in 1877 Black Beauty was written while the author was bedridden and seriously ill. Anna Sewell died 5 months after its publication but lived long enough to see its success as it was an immediate best seller and still is today.
Anna Sewell has said that she wrote the novel to induce kindness, sympathy and an understanding in the treatment of horses.
I am looking very much forward to sharing Black Beauty with you, so get cozy in your Quiet Corner and enjoy tonights story.
The edition I am reading uses text from the first edition and reflects the language and attitudes of the time it was written.
