Awful Book With No Ending... Also Not About Animal
First, the book itself is misleading in that if it were being truthful, instead of a picture of a cat and a dog (which really had nothing to do with the story other than "cameo" appearances), the cover would show a bunch of 80 year old ladies squabbling about money.
The book is a "whodunnit", about elderly southern belles who are trying to off one another for a larger piece of inheritance. The book has an extremely slow, plodding pace, no characters that I can really identify with, and also no ending. The book just kind of ends with very few things tied up, and us not really understanding what the killer's motivation was (or even for certain who did the murders, there was just an accusation). Awful, awful book.

Too slow
This book dragged along. I never felt as if I really got to know the characters. I would not recommend it.

Manners above and beyond
Bless her Dead Little Heart by Miranda James introduces us to her new Southern Sisters series.
When an old college friend shows up at the two elderly sisters Civil War era home, stating her life is in danger the sisters are unable turn her away. What follows is the appearance of their guests familiy and the chaos begins.
Diesel, a Maine coon cat is also a guest, as his owner, (Charlie known from Ms James Cat in the Stack series) is out of town.
This cozy has enough mystery and charm, but after sifting through many red herrings it ends rather abruptly. However it is a cute book for taking a break from heavier stories. The characters are endearing enough that I may look for the second book of the series when it's released.

Enjoyable New Series
This series is the spin off to Miranda James' Cats in the Stacks Mysteries and features Miss An'gel and Miss Dickce Ducote. The sisters are pet sitting Charlie Harris' maine coon cat, Diesel, and get themselves involved in an adventure. When their former sorority sister, Rosabelle Sultan, turns up on their door step, claiming that her family is trying to kill her they don't really believe her. After all Rosabelle loves drama! However when someone else falls victim to a trap set for Rosabelle it really looks like Rosabelle's family mean her harm.
