In this episode, we’re joined by Dr. Cristina Sadowsky, an international expert in rehabilitative medicine and spinal cord injury care at the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Join us in a conversation with Dr. Sadowsky who shares her insights for those living with SCI, their families and rehab teams, on how to create the medical team needed for Longterm SCI health and how to put in place the most practical tailored approach to exercise both in the gym and at home for each SCI person to strengthen body function throughout their lives.
Dr. Sadowsky lays out the building blocks for cardio vascular and metabolic health and explains the additive value of daily exercise. We explore her groundbreaking work with Activity-Based Restorative Therapies (ABRT), her leadership in organizations like ASIA and AAPMR, SCI trials, and her dedication to improving function for both children and adults who live with paralysis. Dr. Sadowsky also offers some creative tips to meet the challenges SCI patients face to continue building function and strength. Her research underscores that ongoing strength building and body movement at home and in out patient rehab facilities continue to improve SCI function over the years and are directly correlated to SCI health and well being.
