In this episode of BookcastHK, we spoke to maritime historian Dr Stephen Davies. He talked about the books he had wrote and a podcast about Hong Kong histories.
For the older generations, Stephen is not an unfamiliar name. He used to be a host of RTHK programmes. He was appointed a Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Maritime by the Government of France in 2009 for his contributions to cross-cultural maritime scholarship and education. In 2020, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society Hong Kong. Between 1990 and 2004 he and his partner Elaine Morgan sailed 50,000 miles, visiting 32 countries in their 11.8m sailing boat.
After living in HK for half a century, in 2022, Stephen relocated to Europe, half a year in England and half a year in France. He was in town for holidays in February, we had the pleasure to speak to him during his brief visit in Hong Kong.
