Buddha Statue to Replace Pigeon on High Line
Update: 2025-12-16
Description
The High Line in Manhattan gains a new landmark: a 27-foot Buddha sculpture titled The Light That Shines Through the Universe. Crafted by Tuan Andrew Nguyen, it replaces the Dinosaur pigeon and will remain until 2024. The Buddha, made from melted artillery shells, symbolizes resilience and healing, paying homage to the destroyed Bamiyan Buddhas. Cecilia Alemani, High Line Arts director, sees it as a powerful counterpoint to extremism and iconoclasm.
