Steve Mazan was a comic who dreamed of getting on Letterman like countless others. But when doctors told him he had five years to live due to cancer, he had to spring into action to beat the clock and get on a show that often takes a decade or more of effort to achieve. His resulting triumph formed the basis of the book and documentary "Dying to Do Letterman," which is basically "Rocky" for standups.
