COMMITMENT TO GOD
Description
GOOD MORNING!
COMMITMENT TO GOD
The Bible tells the story in Judges 13-16 of a man who made a shipwreck of his life. His name was Samson. He was born under a Nazarite vow as described in Numbers 6:1-21. According to a Nazarite vow, a person would be consecrated to God for his entire life. This consecration included never eating grapes, nor drinking wine, never coming into contact with a dead body and never cutting his hair. The Nazarite was someone separated unto God.
But Samson had a problem: He took neither God nor his consecration seriously. He perpetually flirted with temptation and sin. Living life as he pleased, Samson eventually got involved in a dangerous love affair with a certain Delilah (Judges 16). Samson’s enemies offered Delilah money to persuade Samson to tell her the secret of his great strength. Instead of fleeing the temptation, Samson played along in Delilah's little game—not once, but four times, until he was caught. In Judges 16:20 , Delilah woke Samson from his sleep as she had already several times before. Scripture records that Samson proudly said, “‘I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.’ But he did not know that the Lord had left him.” Samson lost. Game over. Samson broke his commitment to God. Samson abandoned God and God abandoned Samson. Samson had immersed himself more and more in self-indulgence until it brought about his final failure.
When we look at Samson's life, we learn that we must remain strong in our commitment to God. We must not play games with our spiritual convictions. Furthermore, we must not make excuses for our sins and failures. We must remember that our own life is only as strong as our commitment to God.
Therefore keep yourself in your commitment to God. In Him is true strength for life.
Have a good day!
