Description

The Caldwell County Board of Education met in regular session Monday night in the Butler Auditorium.

Board Chairman Tim Kennaday called the meeting to order with board member Kim Cook absent. The board approved the minutes and payment of bills. The board then approved the meeting agenda including the approval of several overnight school trips and use of facilities by various school and outside groups.

Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Roach explained to the board and others in attendance about a first time activity held on the high school football field. As a part of a district wide pep rally every student and staff person present on the day were gathered on the football field and formed a shape of the overhead view of Caldwell County. While assembled a Caldwell County student flew a drone over the field to make a picture of the group. Roach noted this was a first and a special time for all Caldwell County students and staff from the youngest to the oldest.

Roach also recognized Food Service Director Aaron McClung and the staff members responsibile for providing the summer food distribution program for the students of the local district. Roach stated this program was a huge success and hundreds of students benefited from the program. He credited the employees that worked in the program as a major part of the success.

McClung shared he was impressed with the success of the program and the dedication of the workers. He explained the school took over the program that was in place for the past several years as King’s Kitchen. He added that previously the group had provided up to 300 meals in a week but the first week they provided the meals they had over 500 people participating. He said the numbers remained high for the entire 12 weeks of service. He noted that plans were to continue the program next year with basically the same set up. Roach then presented the workers with a certificate of appreciation for their work in the summer program.

The board also received both written and oral reports from various administrators and principals.
