En 1971 el ex-vocalista de Deep Purple "Rod Evans" ,el Batería Bobby Caldwell (de la Banda de Johnny Winter) ,junto a los miembros de "Iron Butterfly" ; Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt (Guitarrista) y Lee Dorman (Bajista) ,formaron en Los Angeles (California) el Supergrupo de Hard Rock / Rock Progresivo; Captain Beyond. Su debut fue el Homónimo "Captain Beyond" ,un Álbum que debido a su escasa promoción paso bastante desapercibido en su época, hoy en día se le califica de Obra Maestra. imprescindible , a disfrutar.
