Verse 1: Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars.
This tells us of God’s Church giving glory to Him through martyrdom. The “woman clothed with the sun” refers to God’s Church on this earth, and the phrase “with the moon under her feet” means that the Church is still under the rule of the world. The phrase “on her head a garland of twelve stars,” on the other hand, means that His Church will overcome Satan’s persecution and threats with its martyrdom.
