Chapter 4: Victim or Master Manipulator?
Description
Is Nikki a victim or is she a master manipulator who planned and plotted Chris’ murder? This question was at the heart of Nikki’s trial. There, the defense team put forth a cache of evidence of abuse. But the prosecution suggested that Nikki wanted attention, tried to destroy her credibility and asked: if the abuse was so bad, why didn’t Nikki leave? Justine unpacks the trial, and what the verdict says about how our criminal legal system views self-defense laws when it comes to people in abusive relationships.

omg. if i hear another person referring to chris's abuse of nikki as "rough sex," i am going to lose my mind. this is maddening...
No one knows what someone is capable of - not even that person until put into a specific scenario. I don’t blame his mother for taking up for him and thinking he wasn’t capable of what he is being accused of. No one that loves someone would want to believe that. But - I bet every mother of everyone found guilty of something horrendous would find it hard to believe as well - that doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
funny how juror seems to think its so black and white when in situations like these there is a whole lot of gray
And Chatty Juror. These women are awful
The Frowning Juror needs to get educated.
the views these people hold regarding domestic violence and the victims impacted are absolutely mind blowing.. chatty juror using a lifetime movie as baseline and guidance on what Nikki should have done is more than infuriating
wait, how do they get to just say that Chris was asleep when there is no way of knowing that? so the jury can just be fed any story to hold on to? how can they say that she searched how to kill Chris on his phone? I don't even know the password to my husband's phone! did Chris have a password protected phone?? I can't say that she doesn't deserve some kind of punishment but I also can't say that she does. i feel like she shouldn't be taken from her already affected kids.
