Chronicles of Old Singapore | Meeravathay P.S. – Over 50 Years in Nursing
Description
Welcome to Chronicles of Old Singapore. Meeravathay P.S. takes us through over half a century of her richly diverse career in nursing, from infectious diseases and midwifery to gerontology and teaching. She talks about her early years at the historic Middleton Hospital for infectious diseases, where she met her future husband, the need for discipline and timeliness, the roles of local and foreign nurses, and her experiences of SARS and COVID-19.
Most of all, Meera emphasises the key work of nurses as allies of doctors. We also discuss the rich heritage of hospitals like Middleton (the CDC) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the struggle to conserve the premises while preserving their memories.
