Code-switching involves adjusting your speech, appearance, behavior, and expression in ways that will optimize the comfort of others in exchange for fair treatment, quality service, and employment opportunities. I think all professionals use this technique at sometime or the other sometimes to fit in and sometimes just to thrive!!
This week my guest shares her experience with code switching in and out of uniform.
Wife of 12 years to a fellow Veteran & Mother to 4. Born in Washington State, lived in Germany for a few years, but mostly raised in Columbia, South Carolina Cecilia Anthony is a Military Brat and Air Force Veteran.
Her Father Retired from the US Army, and two years after graduation in 1996, she decided to Enlist in the Air Force. Enlisting open general, she was placed in the Financial Management career field.
Throughout her 20 years in the Air Force, She served in many roles including a Military Training Leader for 3 years. Her 7 assignments throughout her successful career were Washington State, Korea, Georgia, Texas, England and New Mexico, & a deployment to Qatar. While serving, She earned a CCAF in Financial Management and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration. She retired in 2016 and got a job working for the government in the GS system.
