The Prime Minister and ministerial colleagues are in Port Moresby this morning to mark 50 years since Papua New Guinea became independent.

Among the dignitaries is the Minister for Defence Industry and Pacific Island Affairs Pat Conroy. 

Mr Conroy says that despite reports today that the Australia-Papua New Guinea defence treaty has hit a snag, he is confident it will be signed off on Wednesday.
