The book covers the way America chose to "educate" both Native and Black children, but for Indigenous People's Day, we chose to focus on how Indigenous children were treated and taught as our country built its education system.
We cover how Thomas Jefferson's Doctrine of Destiny laid the groundwork for the belief in Manifest Destiny, and how Manifest Destiny lead to white people believing that Black and Indigenous populations were inferior and savage, groups of people to be "civilized" by an army of good white Lady Bountiful teachers.
