能吃饱，能摄入各种营养，就可以了

As long as they can fill their stomachs and get various nutrients,that's enough.

可是中国人会把食材做成各种美食

Kěshì Zhōngguórén huì bǎ shícái zuòchéng gè zhǒng měishí

But Chinese people turn ingredients into all kinds of delicious food.

而且每个地区的人都有自己的特色美食

Érqiě měi gè dìqū de rén dōu yǒu zìjǐ de tèsè měishí

Moreover, people in each region have their own characte’ristic cuisines.

The variety is extremely abundant.

虽然我们今天讲的是做饭，但其实是做菜

Suīrán wǒmen jīntiān jiǎng de shì zuòfàn, dàn qíshí shì zuòcài

Although we're talking about "making rice" today, we actually mean cooking meals.

我们通常说“做饭”，是指做一顿饭

Wǒmen tōngcháng shuō "zuòfàn", shì zhǐ zuò yī dùn fàn

We usually use "zuòfàn" to mean preparing a whole meal,

包括了所有要吃的食物

Bāokuò le suǒyǒu yào chī de shíwù

which includes all the food to be eaten.

而“做菜”，是指除了米饭等主食以外的菜

Ér "zuòcài", shì zhǐ chú le mǐfàn děng zhǔshí yǐwài de cài

While "zuòcài" refers to dishes other than staple food like rice.

我小时候没怎么做过饭

Wǒ xiǎoshíhou méi zěnme zuòguò fàn

I didn't cook much when I was a kid.

长大了有了自己的家庭，就需要天天做饭了

Zhǎng dà le yǒu le zìjǐ de jiātíng, jiù xūyào tiāntiān zuòfàn le

When I grew up and had my own family, I needed to cook every day.

我的邻居，她很懒，不做饭

Wǒ de línjū, tā hěn lǎn, bù zuòfàn

My neighbor is very lazy and doesn't cook.

一家三口每天在外面吃
