Welcome to the fourth episode of the Winetech podcast, where innovation merges with the exciting world of wine.

I am Chloé Fornari, from the startup Bulles de Ruche and enthusiastic member of La Winetech.

In this episode, we have the pleasure of welcoming Greg Lambrecht, founder of Coravin, an innovative product which is now sold in more than 60 countries.

Greg has a medical background and is passionate about wine tasting. He has developed a unique technology that allows you to enjoy a glass of wine or champagne without even having to remove the cork from your bottle! As a result, it remains intact and can be returned to the cellar as it is.

Where does his genious idea come from?

When you open a nice bottle of wine, you are supposed to finish it within a few days so as not to make a waste. What's more, not everyone necessarily wants to taste the same wine at the same time: one would enjoy a glass of Sancerre, the other one a Meursault, the third a Pinot Noir...

Coravin allows its users to taste any wine, still or sparkling, regardless of the cork. The great technological innovation lies in a fine needle which allows you to pierce the cork. An inert gas then "pushes" the wine out of the bottle so that air never comes into contact with the remaining wine. When the needle is removed, the cork closes: the remaining wine is preserved and can be enjoyed months or even years later!

The “Sparkling” system, launched in 2021, has been adapted from the initial system for pouring and storing sparkling wines such as great Champagne wines.

For restaurant sommeliers, wine cellar owners or winegrowers, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop their offer of wine by the glass at the restaurant or during tastings.

For individuals, there is no more pressure to finish a bottle in one go and it offers the opportunity of tasting a multitude of different wines in a single evening.
