Courage in Difficult Times
Description
Mother’s Day (A look at Jochebed’s story in Ex 2)
May 10, 2020
Key Verse: Joshua 1:9
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Main Point: Living courageously during difficult times glorifies God because it demonstrates that we believe in the God of the Bible who is able to do more than we can imagine.
Exodus 1:8-2:10
Oppression (1:8-12)
John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.
In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
- Opposition (1:22 )
Romans 8:31-39 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shalltribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Opportunity (2:1-10)
Galatians 6:7-10
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
You want to be an overcomer and experience victory? Trust God
1 John 5:4
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
- Have an eternal perspective – GOD won!!!
- Rely on God’s strength – Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ…
- Remember the words of Paul “When I am weak, He is strong” 2 Cor 12:10
- Lk 1:39 For with God, nothing will be impossible
- God is in control – “Everything is gonna be alright”
Point of Application: Difficult times can either bring out the best in us or worst in us. It is God’s desire that the church would rise up and face difficulties with the confidence that He is able to provide, protect and prosper his kingdom.
