To your health, Culture Keepers! This is your host, Deborah Axé of You Are A Culture Keeper Podcast. It’s just you and me today, friends. I was sick with Covid for at least 10 days, tested negative and took about a month to recover fully. I lost my sense of smell for about 10 days, had a lingering cough and finally had to surrender and realize that Covid is a teacher. Once I accept that I suffer less in the healing process. I meditated on the several days of agitation that I have been feeling around COVID, and I realized that I was so in my head. I had such monkey mind going on, trying to catch up, releasing the podcast episodes after being sick. And that I was not being in my body. About a third of the way through my hatha yoga practice this morning I realised how agitated I was with random thoughts of all the things I needed to do, and all the people I need to reach out to. I realised that I wasn’t in my body (and my body is my favorite place to be.) Somehow as the after-effects of COVID were lingering in my body, I gave myself the message that my body is not a safe place to be right now. Because sometimes my lungs are tight, and sometimes they are not and I don’t know what to expect from my body. It feel inconsistent and inconsistency is something that I enjoy but it’s something that I also fight in my life. I think meditating on consistency is going to be the next message. If we document our epiphanies, then more come, when we are in an open state of mind. When our pineal gland is activated instead of the limbic system that’s a more enjoyable place to be in. When the pineal gland is activated, we are in a state of bliss and we have sudden realisations which is the definition of an epiphany. We have the epiphanies in plural; they come one right after the other. When the limbic system is activated we are essentially shutting out 95% of the world around us.
When we’re overwhelmed the shutting down of the mind is probably beneficial. There’s probably a biological reason for it, but I can tell you it’s a lot more enjoyable to be in the body and be calm and present in the pineal gland instead. Where we have opened to the world, but we have also learned to be simultaneously calm and non-reactive to the world. It’s a strange dichotomy isn’t it, to be more open to the world and calmer and non-reactive to it. So, earlier in my healing process, I was meditating on this agitation that I feel too. Actually it was presenting more as boredom. It’s interesting because COVID is giving me the opportunity to comb through all the shadow thoughts that I have. So many teachings which I share with you all here.
