Creationtide 2025 Week 3: Re-storying Origins, Identity, and Purpose: Restore, Reconcile, Liberate
Description
Creationtide Week 3
Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon:
Creationtide: Re-storying Origins, Identity, and Purpose:
Restore, Reconcile, Liberate
Restoring our Cosmology, Ontology, and Teleology through re-storying.
Cosmology - the doctrine of origins. Where do we come from?
Ontology - the doctrine of the nature of our being or our identity. What is our identity? How do we re-story our identity?
Teleology: the doctrine of design and purpose in the material world. What are we aiming at? What is our purpose and destination?
The true story of God is one of restoration not retribution; reconcile not exile, liberation not obliteration. Re-storying these reconnects us to our Origins, Identity, Purpose.
God's plan has always been the restoration of the whole creation.
Jesus, the seed sown into the earth, wove God Himself into the story so that we might be restored to God, to one another, and to all creation.
The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew (Eastern Orthodox) proposed in 1989 that September 1st (the first day of the Orthodox Church year) should be observed as a day “of protection of the natural environment”.
In 2016, Pope Francis declared 1 September an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This was expanded in Europe to be a season — Creationtide — going from September 1st until October 4th (the Feast of St Francis), and has been adopted in many churches around the world, including some in the Anglican Communion.
Why is this important? How does this relate to me?
Join us as Jen walks us through this part of our sermon series during Creationtide.
