Cruise at the Beach Classic Car Show Concludes After 25 Years: A Beloved Tradition EndsThe iconic Cruise at the Beach classic car show in Redondo Beach is coming to an end after twenty-five years. Organizer Darryl Boyd, whose family has a rich car history, started the show to preserve the citys car culture. The final event is set for this Saturday, marking the end of a cherished tradition for many car enthusiasts and community members.Boyds passion for cars began with his grandfather, a dirt track racer in the nineteen twenties, and his father, a nineteen fifties hot rodder. He remembers cruising his first car, a nineteen seventy and a half Chevrolet Camaro, along Hermosa Avenue to Harbor Drive, a popular spot for high schoolers and young people with hot rods and custom cars. The decision to end the show was difficult for Boyd, who cited ongoing conflicts with a local business owner as a primary reason. Despite his sadness, he feels its time. Participants like Bill Kidman and Jim Newell expressed that they will miss the community and the people more than the cars themselves, highlighting the strong bonds formed over the years.Boyd recalled the inaugural show in two thousand, which he promoted through word of mouth and flyers. To his surprise, it drew between one hundred fifty and one hundred seventy-five cars, growing significantly each week. The show became a Boyd family tradition, bringing together his father, mother, sister, and children, who all helped make it a success.Despite a brief hiatus during the COVID-nineteen pandemic, Boyd managed to revive the show in two thousand twenty-one, with recent events drawing as many as six hundred cars. Beyond the summer cruises, Boyd also organized special annual shows benefiting children, collecting canned goods for Thanksgiving, and toys for Christmas, showcasing his deep commitment to the community.
