Description

The Prime Minister will travel to Darwin this week to mark 50 years since Cyclone Tracy hit the city in the early hours of Christmas day 1974.

66 people lost their lives and almost 90 percent of Darwin's homes were destroyed, as winds in excess of 200 kilometres an hour tore through the city.

The next morning the extent of the devastation was hard to comprehend.
