I agree with not using namaste in class or calling ourselves yogi, but I do feel like omitting om from classes is disrespectful. If we omit one mantra, wouldn't that mean we have to omit the rest? As long as we honor the mantras by using them in appropriate ways and not doing it just because we think we should, I believe it's okay. From what I've read, those of Indian descent would like for us here in the west to not water down the practice of yoga, and by omitting mantras that would be watering down the practice.
