Then we map a separation‑of‑powers model onto AI: the optimizer proposes; an independent validator our internal “court” tests the action against non‑negotiable principles; only then does an execution layer act. The validator’s charter centers legitimacy, not engagement or profit, and every decision pathway is immutably logged for notice and a hearing. This is due process for algorithms, built to resist capture and preserve accountability when millions of decisions happen in milliseconds.

We get specific on design: structural separation of intent, validation, and execution; cryptographically verifiable logs; emergency veto at machine speed; and structural neutrality so the checker cannot be influenced by the checked. We lay out the hard boundaries protect life, respect human dignity, avoid irreversible or coercive harm and explain why capability metrics like accuracy and latency can never grant legitimacy on their own. Finally, we tackle micro‑drift: real‑time telemetry on boundary‑violation attempts and override rates that trigger timely external reviews.
