Behind a fence
Of my own construction
Bindings tied by my own hands

Beyond the fence
Barren sand

But for one tough little plant
Velvet leaves
Belie the depths plumbed
By roots anchoring it to Earth

And if that little scrap of life
Can defy the sand
Then I, yes I
Can defy this prison of mind
