Democracy's Edge Talks About Africa and AFRICOM with Gerald LeMelle
Update: 2009-02-22
Description
Gerald Le Melle holds a J.D. from Georgetown University. He lived in Africa for ten years and now is the Executive Director of Africa Action having previously worked for Amnesty International USA. Hosts Dave and Diane have a lot of questions about what's going on with this new part of the U.S. military called AFRICOM. Is this the way to resolve conflicts in countries in Africa? Do Africans want our help? Is the United States of Africa a good idea? What has Africa got that we want? Lots. If we paid African farmers a fair price for their crops like cocoa for all the chocolate we consume, would they be able to get out of poverty? A great free wheeling discussion, if I do say so myself.
