There are so many detox myths and bad advice that I honestly hate this subject. But like many, I’ve had questions in the back of my  mind. Like is detoxification really all that important? Won’t our bodies just “handle” it?

The word detox itself makes my skin crawl. There’s been so many slimy articles written, snake oil products and misinformation borderlining on damaging to health.

You’ll notice that Jordan and I rarely bring up the topic. Now, don’t get me wrong, we have at least 10 private multiple chemical sensitive clients in our consulting practice right now. I know from talking with these people that toxins are in our air, water, food, and basically everywhere. But not everyone reacts like them.

It’s kind of like people with Celiac disease. They CANNOT have a spec of gluten. And most of the rest of us should avoid it as well. But trust me, most of you are exposed to gluten even when you think you did everything right. I know this because of working, talking and hanging around people like Jordan. They are at the far end of the spectrum of sensitivity, just as a MCS person is at the far end of the toxin overload spectrum.

But where does that leave the rest of us who aren’t that sensitive. Do we need to care and how much of our daily budget, thoughts and pill count should be devoted to this idea of detoxification?

“Detox is a process, not a thing” ~Dr. Tim

Dr. Tim Gerstmar decided to jump into this deeeeeeep rabbit hole and find out what the deal was. I’m exaggerating somewhat but not by much. As I was eluding to in the beginning of this post, the idea of detox, toxins and cleanses might consume a lifetime of study, so I appreciate that Dr. Tim took the time and effort to get to the bottom of what is relevant for us right now.

He’s up in Seattle and if you’re in that area, you should track him down for help. He knows his stuff regarding digestion, detox and hormones. And he’s one of the few who realizes it’s important to keep learning regardless of age or experience.
