Description
The Alto Knights: The movie on Afdah opens in 1959 with a clumsy scene in the New York lobby of Frank's apartment complex. Levinson portrays an experienced performer. After the shockingly poor success of Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, I'm encouraged to see a director of his age becoming an authority in his area. The subsequent scenes are set in a distant future because Frank is still alive and seeks revenge. Even if the bullet miraculously falls on his scalp and wraps around his head, Frank knows the gunman is one of Vito's goons, but he respects the code and doesn't alert the police. Pileggi's intricate tale spans multiple decades and demonstrates how a gang of dishonest immigrants exploited Prohibition.
