Dissecting the Frog - Dark and Personal Topics in Stand-Up w/ Sam Jones - Episode 4
Description
A wise man once said "Analysing humour is like dissecting a frog. Few people are interested and the frog dies". Well, we're here to ignore that entirely as we dive into the nitty gritty nerdy side of comedy, asking: Why does that work? Why doesn't that work? And who the hell cares?
Join me, Harry Cole, as I invite a guest to examine and scrutinise their favourite comedians work, as well as their own, to find all the blood, guts and major organs inside. Welcome to Dissecting the Frog
In this episode, ex-ComedySoc president Sam Jones teaches us all about his dissertation, which aimed to explain a recent trend in stand-up comedy. He noticed that across the last decade many comics were building shows around more serious and personal topics, often discussing trauma, grief, mental health in their material. We look into this more, and analyse the future of this trend.
