Description

Bottlenose dolphins from Scotlands Moray Firth are migrating to Yorkshires coast, as far south as Scarborough, Whitby, and Bridlington. The Citizen Fins project, which identifies dolphins by unique marks on their dorsal fins, has received over five thousand photos, leading to matches of over seventy known dolphins. Local watcher Stuart Baines, a retired solicitor, has noticed a significant increase in dolphin activity, from four or five sightings a year to over seven hundred. The project is reshaping how researchers monitor these dolphins across the North Sea, with calls for more photos to continue tracking their journeys.
