In early 2024, the long-awaited unsealing of the Ghislaine Maxwell and Virginia Giuffre court documents revealed that Doug Band had been listed as one of the anonymous “John Does” — specifically Doe 8 — in the filings. The disclosure came after U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska determined there was no longer a need to keep his identity concealed, citing Band’s own prior public statements about his knowledge of and proximity to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. This included his 2020 Vanity Fair interview where he discussed advising Bill Clinton to distance himself from Maxwell and denying any close association with Epstein. The decision to unmask Band followed the court’s broader effort to promote transparency after years of redacted records shielding politically and socially connected figures in Epstein’s orbit.
