Description
In this podcast Jim explores the experiences of teaching through the pandemic from the perspective of two recently qualified teachers. Both Julie and Jordan, while only graduating in 2017, offer insight and wisdom beyond their years of teaching. There is a genuine sense of empathy alongside creativity and working around the challenges of teaching remotely while maintaining strong pedagogical principles. We hope you enjoy it!
About the Julie and Jordan
Julie Hill Teacher of Art and Photography
I graduated as a teacher in 2017 having completed a BA(hons) in Illustration from Falmouth School, followed by my PGCE in Secondary Art from University of the West of England. I am now in my third year of teaching Art and Photography at a secondary school in Somerset. Before undertaking my teacher training I taught Art for two years in a secondary school in Switzerland, I then gained a ‘CELTA’ qualification in Lisbon and taught English as an additional language to children and adults. As a new teacher I have lots to learn, I am especially interested in the role of love and compassion as essential elements of the classroom and how an emotionally responsive teacher can use meaningful connections to teach effectively.
Jordon Clapp Teacher of Physical Education and Computing
I qualified as a teacher in 2017 after graduating with a BEd (hons) Secondary Education (Physical Education) (With QTS) degree from the University of St Mark and St John (Plymouth). I am currently in my fourth year of teaching physical education and computing at The Castle School. I have always had a passion for sport and physical activity which has led me into teaching physical education, hoping to ignite and develop a similar love in students. I am particularly interested in how we can use physical education and sport to engage students, drive pupil progress and create an exciting school community.
