The arrest of former Philippine President Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte, I covered his time as major and in congress when he was in Davao. He was arrested on a ICC Warrant in Manila at the international airport named for a political leader who was a victim of a violent poltical murder.

Arrests of former Presidents have happened before. Often during the terms of their successors. Often when poltical season si near. But, this is different it’s an arrest for violence during a drug war where soem human rights groups say up to 3500 died.

This is my opinion and reaction having covered this story for a long time and what I think may be coming. It is about accountability, and hopefully a shift away from the use of extreme violence and an end of what is often termed as impunity of those in power. But we shall see what comes next.

The Philippines removed itself from the ICC during Dutertez time in office. New cases can be brought forward. Only from the time the Philippiens was in the ICC treaty.
