EP: 99 // Fate vs Destiny
Description
Fate is the unavoidable, often external force that shapes what happens to you, while destiny is your purpose or potential, shaped by your choices and actions and leading to what you become, even if some fixed points (like death) are fated. Fate is about a prewritten outcome, often outside your control (e.g., being born into a situation); destiny is about your active journey, choices, and growth toward your highest self.
Fate (The "What Happens")
- External & Unchangeable: A predetermined course set by outside forces (gods, the universe, circumstances).
- Passive: What is thrust upon you, the inevitable lot in life.
- Examples: Meeting someone by chance, experiencing a natural disaster, and the inevitability of death.
Destiny (The "What You Become")
- Internal & Influenced: Your higher purpose or potential, achieved through your own will and decisions.
- Active: What you make of yourself; the sum of your possibilities and growth.
- Examples: Overcoming hardship to achieve greatness, fulfilling a calling, choosing your path.
Key Distinction
Think of it as a journey: Fate might be the fixed destination (you'll die), but destiny is the various paths and choices (how you live, what you achieve) you take to get there. Fate is what will happen; destiny is what you do with what happens to you.
