EP 1154 - Why You Keep Getting Distracted As An Athlete
Update: 2024-07-17
Description
If you EVER find yourself at a point where you're not consistent, not able to stick to the process. This shows you're being DISTRACTED. In this episode, we will discuss the reasons you're getting distracted. This will help you to eliminate those distractions while navigating your journey to an elite athlete.
Here are some of the reasons that you're getting distracted as an athlete:
1. You don't have the right goals: You often become distracted when your goals are unclear or not well-aligned with your values and abilities. This lack of clarity can lead to diminished focus & motivation during training and competition. You must set the right goals to enable you to remain undistracted.
2. You don't have a plan of action: Without a structured roadmap, or a well-drafted plan, you may struggle with uncertainty, leading to inconsistent training, lack of progress, and diminished motivation.
This plan of action is the glue that brings the goals together.
3. You're not disciplined enough: If you're not disciplined enough, the above-mentioned points won't work. So, lack of discipline can be a major source of distraction for you, affecting your ability to stay focused and consistently perform at your best.
4. You want to eat your cake and have it: Young athletes aiming to "have their cake and eat it too" usually face distractions from conflicting priorities.
In other to become an elite athlete, you need to trade off some things.
5. You think you have time: Thinking there's always enough time can distract you from maximizing your potential. Procrastination or underestimating deadlines can lead to rushed preparations, missed opportunities, and subpar performance. So you need to recognize the value of time and adhere to structured schedules.
