Description

JESSE BLISS is our guest in this episode, and she is the Founder and Artistic Director of The Roots and Wings Project, a politically charged, socially transformative, project-based theatre company with a mission to provide stage and space for voices of the unnamed, unknown and misunderstood. She is also the author of the chapbook and companion manual I LOVE MYSELF GOLDEN, originally written for incarcerated young women and core curriculum at Occidental College. The list of Jesse’s accomplishments and work is impressive – she’s an international playwright, director, producer, actress, poet and veteran arts educator. Also, she is a ground-breaking storyteller who experienced art as life-saving and in turn has dedicated her life's work to offering art to others of all ages, backgrounds and socio-economic standings. She attributes art as core to her own healing and wellness, knowing the power of what it can do to reshape lives, resist oppression and help raise awareness on matters of civil and human rights. Join us for this moving episode where she shares her journey as an artist, educator, community activist and mother, and stay till the end where she'll read us a powerful portion of her book I Love Myself Golden.
